Prof. Dr. Hein Vermeulen is professor of Tax Law at the Amsterdam Law School of the University of Amsterdam, where he is the chair of the Department of Tax Law and where he lectures on European and International Tax Law.
Hein authored the book ‘Dutch Fiscal Investment Institution’ (Kluwer Law, 2012), and (co-)edited and co-authored the books: ‘The Tax Treatment of CIVs and REITs’ (IBFD, 2013), ‘Foundations of International Tax Law’ (‘Grondslagen Internationaal Belastingrecht’) (Boom, 2015, 2016 and 2019), 'Tax Law Essentials' ('Hoofdzaken belastingrecht)' (Boom 2019 and 2020) and 'European Tax Law' (Kluwer Law, 2018). In addition, Hein wrote the chapter on Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) in the IBFD’s Investment Funds & Private Equity Journal collection.
He studied law with a specialization in tax law in Amsterdam and obtained a doctorate in tax law at the University of Amsterdam with a dissertation on the cutting edge of tax law, civil law and administrative law. He is also a Member of the Editorial Board of the IBFD’s Journal Articles collection Derivatives & Financial Instruments, Vakstudie Nieuws and author of Highlights & Insights on European Taxation, Kluwer Law International.
In addition, Hein works for the EU Direct Tax Group (EUDTG) of PwC in Amsterdam.
